Easy Homecoming Hair Ideas

You have the dress and the shoes, but what to do with your tremendous tresses? From chic updos to sleek curls, these hairstyles will make your locks rock at the dance of the season.

Ballerina bun

A spotlight-ready ballerina bun is all about volume. The trick is to backcomb your high pony to give it extra lift before wrapping it clockwise and pinning in place.

Style blogger Marttyna Renk looks ready to pirouette across the dance floor in her ballerina bun and gorgeous red dress. It's the perfect updo to showcase a fancy dress.

Loose Waves

Somewhere between barrel curls and pin-straight locks are these lovely loose waves—fancy enough for the school dance without going over the top.

Fashion Click regular Megan Rose transforms her long strands into relaxed ringlets that look understatedly glamorous. If you want a high gloss like Megan's, work a dime's worth of shine serum throughout before curling.

Braid crown

The braid crown is a hippie throwback that works just as well with your modern-day threads. Start a one-inch braid behind each ear and crisscross over the crown before securing the tips with bobby pins.

Style blogger Veronika Placek pairs her halo with side-swept bangs and a low bun. You can switch up the look by swapping out the bun for a ponytail, or simply leave your locks long and loose.

Super-high ponytail

Considering how easy it is, a high ponytail looks impossibly glamorous—and takes two seconds to do. Keep it sleek by smoothing hair around the crown with a bristle brush, then spritz on a little hairspray.

Model and blogger Lauren Maxwell pulls her long wavy locks into sleek pony, but curly girls and straight-locked ladies can pull off this look, too.

Half up, Half down

Can't decide whether to pull it all up or leave it down? A classic half-up, half-down 'do takes just enough off your shoulders to showcase a pretty dress

The blogger behind Aqui looks particularly romantic with a few face-framing pieces pulled loose. Add a bold-hued barrette or sweet bow for a finish with flare.

Bows

When it comes to bows, the bigger, the better. Pin an oversize bow barrette to one side or tie a wide satin ribbon around your curly pony for a super-sweet, '50s-inspired look.

Style blogger Ashley Rose tucks a big white bow into the front of her bun, finishing with simple strand of pearls. When you're wearing head-turning hair accessory, follow Ashley's lead and stick to simple jewels.

Side swept

If you'd rather leave your hair down but want to fancy it up a bit, look no further than this side-swept 'do.

Style blogger Ivana pulled her hair back with a simple pin, but you can switch up the sparkle by accessorizing your tresses with a rhinestone clip or your favorite vintage brooch.

Natural Curls

If you're a girl with natural curls, embrace 'em! Enhance the texture of your tresses for a special occasion by washing with a curl-friendly shampoo and conditioner, then adding a dash of curl cream before drying for extra smoothness.

Blogger Christina Caradona boasts some of the curliest 'cues we've seen, and though her hair looks lovely as is, ringlets can be easily dolled up with barrettes, headbands, or a simple side bun.

Headband

Whether you wear a hippie-chic headwrap or a classic bow-bedecked headband, this hair accessory instantly elevates any 'do—just be sure to skip the dangling earrings and opt for chic studs instead.

For a retro look like style blogger Vickie, swap out the standard wide band for a wrap-around rope or woven turban.

Side Braid

From Frenchies to fishtails, you can t go wrong with a classic braid. Not only do they look great, but they also keep hair off your face and securely in place if you have a long night ahead of you.

As our style blogger Sandra demonstrates, the side braid is perfectly polished for a school dance. Keep the top loose and the braid tight for a chic contrast. Tie a ribbon to the end or weave throughout for an extra boost of color.
